Welcome to Hong Kong Canteen, an authentic cha chaan teng nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of North Point. This charming cafe, located at 72 Wharf Rd, captures the essence of Hong Kong's iconic comfort food scene, where East meets West in delightful and delicious combinations.

As soon as you step inside, you're greeted by a modern yet cozy atmosphere, a breath of fresh air amidst the bustling streets of Hong Kong. The inviting interior provides just the right amount of hustle and bustle, a perfect reflection of the energetic vibe this city is known for. It’s a cozy place to catch up with friends, grab a casual bite, or savor a moment of solitude with a warm cup of milk tea.

At Hong Kong Canteen, the menu is a delightful homage to classic Hong Kong fare, offering dishes that evoke nostalgia and provide a comforting plate for every diner. Don’t miss the famous pineapple bun – this beloved specialty, with its soft, sweet crust, pairs perfectly with a rich slab of butter that melts into every crevice, creating a symphony of flavor. Customer Valeria Bugriy hailed it as a "must-try," a testament to its irresistible appeal.

If you’re in the mood for something heartier, dive into their curry offerings. Jacky Lok raves about the unexpected yet delicious combinations here, such as the lamb chop paired with ox tongue, showcasing the chef’s creativity and commitment to flavor. Whether embracing traditional favorites like chicken rice or experimental twists, there is something on the menu that will capture your curiosity and palate.

For breakfast lovers, the breakfast sets are truly a treat. Robyn Leong had a mixed experience with the truffle scrambled eggs, which surprisingly provided a unique flavor profile different from what one would expect from generic truffle oil, giving it a distinct touch that’s worth exploring for the adventurous eater. Pair it with a refreshing Yuen Yang drink — a harmonious blend of coffee and tea that is both robust and comforting, as Jason Kong suggests, and you’ll feel ready to take on the day.

Space at Hong Kong Canteen may be limited during peak hours, but WY found ease in finding a seat during a late breakfast, where they enjoyed their meals amidst the cozy ambiance. The macaroni soup, chicken cutlet, and sunny side eggs on toast are also recommended for their heartiness and comforting warmth, making it a delightful start to the day.

Whether you’re a local or just visiting, Hong Kong Canteen offers a culinary experience that speaks to the heart of Hong Kong's dining culture. Their commitment to quality and authentic flavors, combined with a friendly atmosphere, makes it a spot you won’t want to miss. Indulge in the flavors of Hong Kong and let every bite tell you a story of this incredible city!

Their curry is especially great Got some unconventional combo, like in this case it's lamb chop with ox tongue

This place was a surprise find. The interior was rather spacious and modern. I had the breakfast set, the Bolo Bun with butter and the truffle scrambled eggs. Unfortunately, the truffle eggs did not taste like the artificial generic truffle oil that I expected, but rather of JiSongRong mushrooms (Google them). Was not a big fan of them and probably will not recommend. The milk tea I ordered was unsweetened. Add your own sugar packets at the table. Will come back if I am in the area!

Nice traditional-style HK cafe. Friendly boss. Love the pineapple bun with butter and Yuen-Yang drink.

Came for late breakfast at this cozy restaurant, limited seating but we easily found seats during weekdays. They serve breakfast up to 11.30am. We came around 11am, they are also serving lunch already. Ordered pineapple bun, the crust was so good. We also ordered macaroni soup, chicken rice, chicken cutlet with some meat patty. Toast came with 2 sunny side eggs. Everything is so good, even the hot coffee & ice tea we ordered.

A good choice to have local HK style tea house food. The manager or boss was very helpful and friendly.
